AFRO-AM COURSES - PLEASE NOTE:

  • You must get Afro-Am program approval before registering for courses each quarter.
  • All courses should be “200” level graduate courses. But students may take up to three “100” level undergraduate courses, if appropriate graduate course is not available. They will do extra work in the course.
  • Letter Grade (You must be take all 12 courses for a letter grade for graduation.)
  • S/U (If you take as a supplemental course only. Will not count as one of your 12 courses for graduation.)
  • If you cannot find sufficient “200” level courses, you may take up to 3 “100” level upper division undergraduate courses. You will do extra work in those classes.
  • Take no more than 3 courses per quarter. If you want to take more, you must obtain Afro-Am Studies prior permission.
  • If necessary, you can take up to two 596-level courses for credit as part of your 12 courses: Any additional 596 will NOT count for credit, but will appear on your transcript.)
  • If you need to study with a single professor because you can’t find a course that covers exactly what you need; or if you need to do specialized research towards your thesis.

 

500 LEVEL INDIVIDUAL STUDY COURSES:

If you have already used two 596 courses toward your 12 courses for the degree, any additional 596 will NOT count for credit, but will appear on your transcript.
